Those Tears

This Sunday we begin a sermon series that will bring us through Lent.  It's called, "Those Tears."  We begin with Isaiah 53 where the one who will save is called the Man of Sorrows.  During this service we will be "passing the hammer" from the service project in Texas (Mike Steenbeek reporting) to the one in West Virginia (our youth mission team leaves this coming week). A thank you note

Paul's letter to the Philippians is a thank you note.  But like so many of us, he's not really good at accepting gifts and saying "thank-you" (Philippians 4:10-23). His letter to the Philippians is much more than a Hallmark card.  Join us for this final message in the series, "Letters from Prison."  The communion meal will be shared during the service.  Sunday, February 24, 10:00 a.m.

Soup's on!

This Sunday, Feb 10, is Soup Fest.  Stay for lunch and sample a few of the amazing soups.  Bring your favourite pot of soup to share (and a ladle).  Bowls, spoons, crackers - all provided.

Sparking JOY

By now you may have heard about the concept of "sparking joy."  But it's not new.  Incredibly, it got a lot of attention from someone who spent years in prison.  In Paul's letter to the Philippian Christians, he encourages them to think about things that will spark joy.  That becomes possible, even if you are in prison, if you use Paul as your example.  Because Paul is imitating Christ.  Join us for a careful reading of Paul's letter.  Philippians 4:1-9, on Sunday, Feb 10, 10:00 a.m.

Citizenship

"Do as I say, not as I do."  We've probably all used that one.  But Paul, in his letter to the  Philippians (3:17-21), instructs his readers to follow his example.  That's a bold thing to say.  He dares to say it because he knows that as "citizens of heaven," our lives are going to look, well, different.  Sunday, Feb 3 at 10:00 a.m.

Beware of Joy-Zappers

They look so harmless - those people who follow the rules, who try so hard to be "good" Christians.  But when following the law becomes our priority, we zap ourselves and others of the joy that God wants for us.  And worse, our reliance on the law says we think we can save ourselves and that we don't need Jesus.  Paul says it again, in his letter to the Philippians (3:1-16): Rejoice in the Lord!  Sunday, Jan 27, 10 a.m.

Starting Over

Who hasn't wished, at times, that they could start over - undo the past, make a fresh beginning.  Peter had turned his back on Jesus.  But Jesus gave him the gift of starting over (John 21:1-19).  Through Jesus and the power of the resurrection, God gives us that same gift.  Sunday, Jan 13, 2019, 10:00 a.m.
